Visual Communication Advert

We were given a brief to create a poster to encourage young people to give blood.
I started by sketching out a couple of ideas and after feed-back from my group, produced a sample of the strongest concept. I decided to focus on the aspect of how quick and easy it is to give blood because I think this is one of the things that would hinder young people from doing so. I used illustrator to create the poster below. I feel that the colour scheme and simplistic diagrams are effective for the purpose.

Illustrator Shield

I created this using Illustrator. I wasn't very happy with the final outcome but it gave me an opportunity to practice using some of the illustrator tools.

Paris Trip - Inspiration

During our recent Paris trip I photographed examples of typography, book covers, patterns and illustrations that I particularly liked. Here are some of my favourites which may provide inspiration for future pieces of work.

Church Christmas Leaflet

My local church asked me to design something for the front of their Christmas leaflet.
I experimented with different images and texts to create different layouts to present to them. They chose the layout on the bottom left.

Menu Layout

I worked on this menu layout for an Italian restaurant. I have used a checked background to look like a table cloth in the traditional Italian flag colours.

A friend asked me to create a baby shower invitation for her. I began by looking for examples of similar work that I liked (see top images). I liked the vibrant colours, simplistic illustrations, handwritten typography styles and also the striking black outlines on the first illustration. Based on my inspiration, I created this image of a baby (named 'mini Nicky', the mother's name), using illustrator and played around with different ways of laying out the image and text. I chose a background of pink and blue because the gender of the baby is not known. In the end we chose to use the 4th design (bottom, right) because it was the simplest of the designs and perhaps the most modern.

Magazine Layouts - Double Page Spreads

I worked on these double page magazine spreads within the restrictions given.
I feel that the last three are most effective due to the use of white space.

Typology Experiments

I came up with this variation of a common typeface by tearing the paper and drawing on the letters with a black pen. Some of the effects were more effective than others.

I created this example of Found Typography with a fashion theme. I used clothing, scarves and various accessories to create this piece, I deliberately chose bright, contracting objects and backgrounds (in an Andy Warhol style) to create a fun, retro alphabet. I edited the final image to brighten up the colours even further.
I could imagine this being used in a teen or fashion magazine.
